Academy director at Cobblestone Golf Course, Joyce Wilcox, haJoyce Wilcox Photos been named a Master Kids Teacher after earning her third consecutive Top 50 Kids Teachers Awards from the U.S. Kids Golf Foundation.

The U.S. Kids Golf Foundation has bestowed upon several qualified recipients the honor of Master Kids Teacher for spreading interest in the game of golf among America’s youth. Since 2008, the foundation has awarded 104 teachers this esteemed honor – 28 of whom joined the ranks in 2014.

The class of 2014 includes golf professionals from 22 states, Canada, Costa Rica and Mexico. Applicants complete an online survey and winners are chosen based on their contributions to junior golf, such as: time devoted to teaching young golfers; innovation, creativity and fun in their programs; communication; parental involvement; and overall effort to grow the game.

A Class-A member of the LPGA, Wilcox is an accomplished athlete who took up golf only after international success as the country’s number one female skeet shooter, a multi-year World Champion and 1992 National Skeet Shooting Hall of Fame Inductee.

She began playing golf in 1980 and rose to the ranks as one of Connecticut’s best women golfers, competing in various national amateur events. In 1990, Wilcox moved to Woodstock, Ga., and helped begin the first Atlanta Chapter of the Executive Women’s Golf League before turning professional in 1992.
