May 7, 2013

Springfield 1The Diana Brehm Williams art gallery at the Cobb Chamber features different artists on rotation, and is pleased to bring an Atlanta native to the cultural spotlight through June.  Today we look at Jane Springfield, an award-winning landscape painter.

Jane Springfield, a resident of Marietta, draws inspiration for her landscape paintings from hiking and backpacking trips all over the world. Her favorite painting locations include national and state parks and forests. Springfield’s exhibit at the Cobb Chamber entitled “Painting the Great Outdoors” is her way of expressing these two passions: painting and hiking.

A Signature and Board member of Georgia Watercolor Society and a Member of Excellence with Atlanta Artists Center, Springfield is active with many art organizations. She leads the Friday Open Studio Group at Atlanta Artists Center, exhibits locally and nationally, and has had numerous one-woman shows of her work. She was selected as the Artist in Residence for Sapelo Island State Park in 2008, and is also a member of Ossabaw Artists Collective, a group of 12 artists who visit and create images of one of Georgia’s remote barrier islands.

Springfield 2Springfield received her Bachelors of Fine Arts degree from the University of Georgia but claims to have been an artist all of her life, making the decision to become a full-time painter six years ago. In previous careers, she was an agency art director, catalog producer and high technology marketing director.

Join us in celebrating an emerging artist who calls Atlanta her home and be sure to visit the Cobb Chamber to see her work on display!
